Psychological Capital and Its Relationship to Self-Compassion among University Students

Abstract

The research aims to examine psychological capital among university students, identify the differences in psychological capital and self-compassion according to gender and specialization, identify self-compassion among university students, and examine the correlation between psychological capital and self-compassion in terms of gender and specialization. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher adopted the Luthans & Norman (2007) scale, which consists of 24 items. The researcher also adopted the self-compassion scale prepared by Neff (2009), which consists of 27 items, as the researcher applied the scale to a sample of 400 students, including 140 males and 260 females for the academic year 2023-2022. The results showed that university students have psychological capital and self-compassion. There are statistically significant differences in psychological capital according to gender, and there are no statistically significant differences regarding specialization. There are statistically significant differences in self-compassion according to gender in favor of males, and there are no statistically significant differences concerning specialization. There is a positive correlation between psychological capital and self-compassion among university students. Finally, the researcher came out with several recommendations and suggestions.
