Before Accepting or Declining a Review Invitation
Consider the following questions before agreeing to review a manuscript:
- Expertise: Does the article align with your area of expertise? Only accept if you can provide a high-quality review.
- Conflict of Interest: Do you have any potential conflicts of interest? Disclose these to the editor when responding.
- Time Commitment: Do you have sufficient time to complete the review? Ensure you can meet the deadline before committing.
How to Conduct a Peer Review for Journal of Educational and Psychological Research
The reviewer report should provide a comprehensive critique of the submission, going beyond a few brief sentences. While Journal of Educational and Psychological Research does not require a specific structure for reports, the following format is recommended:
- Summary: Briefly summarize the manuscript’s content and objectives.
- Major Issues: Highlight significant concerns that need to be addressed.
- Minor Issues: Point out smaller errors or areas for improvement.
Reviewers are encouraged to provide constructive feedback to help authors improve their work. If there are comments you do not wish the authors to see, include them in the confidential section for the editor.
Key Aspects to Evaluate
While expectations may vary by discipline, reviewers should consider the following core aspects:
- Research Questions: Are the research questions valid and clearly defined?
- Sample Size: Is the sample size adequate for the study?
- Ethical Approval: Was ethical approval obtained, and was the research conducted ethically?
- Methodology: Are the methods and study design appropriate for addressing the research questions?
- Reproducibility: Are the methods described in sufficient detail to allow replication?
- Statistical Analysis: Are statistical tests appropriate and correctly reported?
- Figures and Tables: Are they clear and do they accurately represent the results?
- Literature Review: Has previous research been adequately discussed and compared to the current findings?
- Citations: Are citations appropriate, or are there instances of over-citation or self-citation?
- Conclusions: Do the results support the conclusions drawn?
- Limitations: Are the limitations of the research acknowledged?
- Abstract: Does it accurately summarize the research without exaggeration?
- Language: Is the manuscript written clearly and understandably?
Timely Submission of Reviews
To ensure timely feedback for authors, reviewer reports should be submitted via the manuscript tracking system by the agreed deadline. If you are unable to meet the deadline, contact Journal of Educational and Psychological Research to arrange an alternative date.
Review Recommendations
At the end of the review, recommend one of the following actions:
- Accept
- Minor Revision
- Major Revision
- Reject
- Unable to Review
Confidentiality
Manuscripts under review are strictly confidential. Reviewers must not share or discuss the manuscript with anyone outside the peer review process. If you wish to consult with a colleague, contact Journal of Educational and Psychological Research or the Editor-in-Chief and note the colleague’s name in the “Comments to the Editor” section.
Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers should decline to review a submission if they:
