Abstract

The current research aims to identify the academic entitlement of preparatory school students and the differences in academic entitlement among preparatory school students according to gender, specialization, grade, and school. The sample consisted of 335 male and female students from Baghdad Education Directorate-Al-Karkh2. The sample was selected from the scientific and literary specialization, the fourth and fifth grades of preparatory school, the distinguished, outstanding students, and the ordinary students. The random stratified sampling method with a normal distribution is used for selecting the sample. To achieve the aims of the research, the researcher developed an academic entitlement scale by adopting the psychological merit theory. The scale in its final form consisted of 31 items distributed into four areas: narcissism, teachers’ work on behalf of students, arguments about grades, and etiquette for dealing with teachers. After ensuring the validity and reliability of the tool, it was administered to the research sample and their responses were analyzed statistically. For analyzing data, the researcher used the following statistics: pearson correlation coefficient, cronbach equation, t-test for one sample, t-test for two independent samples, and ANOVA. The results indicated that preparatory school students feel academic entitlement at an average level, and their percentage reached 71%, there are no differences in entitlement among members of the current research sample according to gender (males, females), specialization (scientific, literary), grade (fourth, fifth) of preparatory school, and for students (distinguished, outstanding, and ordinary students).
