Emotional Expression Deficit among Secondary School Students

The current research aims to identify the level of emotional expression deficit among secondary school students. It is limited to students at the Al-Karkh/2 Directorate, including both males and females for the academic year 2025–2026. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher adopted the Emotional Expression Deficit Scale developed by Taylor (1979). After establishing its psychometric properties, the scale consisted of 20 items applied to a random sample of 383 male and female students. The sample included 188 males (49%) and 195 females (51%). The researcher used the one-sample t-test, independent-samples t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Cronbach’s alpha equation to analyze the collected data. The results indicated that the research sample has an emotional expression deficit. There are statistically significant differences in terms of gender. The research recommends directing school administrations to implement educational programs and workshops aimed at developing emotional expression skills among secondary school students, as well as providing activities through school counseling units to create a supportive environment that allows students to interact socially in a safe setting and express their emotions freely.
